Back Log #5: Mateo's 3rd Birthday

Can anyone believe he is 3 already?? I can't! Well our sweet Mateo had an interesting birthday. It started out with an EEG of his brain. He has been having some seizure activity that we first noticed about 2 weeks before his birthday. So they scheduled an EEG on such a great day (yes you do hear a hint of sarcasm in that). Our instructions were to only let him sleep 4 hours the night before, yes you know you are getting old when your husband and you have to take shifts in this endeavor. We are so proud of our son! He did great even though he was exausted. We told him these were special "stickers" for his birthday. Then they have time lay still (and fall asleep) for about a half hour. Then they have you wake him up and try a few breathing excersizes. This was not an easy feat and this is where it got a little bumpy....but I wouldn't be very happy about waking up either! (see 4th picture down for wake up picts). Also, you might wonder what kind of freaks would bring a camera to this sort of thing! :) We can explain! We had brought in our video camera to show the dr. some seizure stuff that we had recorded...then when he was putting all this sticky stuff on we were able to take pictures and show Mateo what it/he looked like. It kept him distracted some, and that is how we ended up with pictures. I problaby won't go into all of the stuff with him, but right now we are in a wait and see mode, with blood work results out and an MRI w contrast and sedation scheduled in about 2 weeks.

After a long nap, he awoke to his Guatemalan Birthday Party! Mommy (tried) made Pollo Pepian. This was my favorite dish in Guatemala and it is traditionally made for special holidays like birthdays or Christmas. Lets just say, though it was edible, it didn't even come close to the real thing!
